Patrick Stewart

Patrick Hewes Stewart was born on July 13, 1940 in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, England. Patrick Stewart is a veteran film, television and stage actor. He is most widely known for his television and film roles, as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek series, and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films. Stewart's career in acting started from about age 12. He took a minor detour into journalism, but soon put his full focus back on acting when he was accepted into the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 1957. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 and remained with it for the next twenty-seven years. In the mid 70s roles in television and film would bring larger audiences and exposure. The great break came when he was cast in the role of Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series. The Star Trek franchise would fully open the floodgates of roles and artistic opportunities and freedoms available to Stewart. Stewart's talent and passion for acting has continued to burn strong with new roles in film, television and theatre. Even the title of playwright has be added to his name for several literary works he adapted for radio and stage. In addition, the voice of Patrick Stewart is likely one of the most sought after as a voice-over artist for recordings, TV commercials and documentaries. Based on the demand for his talents and his passion for acting it is unlikely you will find him at Comic-Con selling autographs and photos. Stewart was made a member of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2001, later followed by a knighthood in 2010.
