Maria Bamford was born on September 3, 1970 in Port Hueneme, California. Bamford is an American stand-up comedian best known for her portrayal of her dysfunctional family and self-deprecating comedy routine involving jokes about her apparent depression and loneliness. Her comedy style also involves the incorporation of various voices to represent (and often good-naturedly mock) various stock character types. Her various impersonations contrast sharply with her normal speaking voice, which is often high and child-like. Her comedy often takes the form of vignettes rather than the standard setup/punchline format. Fellow comic Patton Oswalt has called her one of the most creative and original comics working today.
